Diplomat slams post-Maidan leadership for turning Ukraine into debt junkie, West’s colony

The Russian diplomat said Kiev had been given about $70.5 billion from the time of a coup d’etat in February 2014 through December 2021

MOSCOW, June 14. /TASS/. Given that it has been constantly getting loans from the West, Ukraine has actually turned into a Western colony, said Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on her Telegram channel on Tuesday.

"The two political foes, [ex-president Pyotr] Poroshenko and [current Ukrainian leader Vladimir] Zelensky have doomed the state which they are responsible for to the status of a permanent receiver of loans, and they are unified on this score more than anything else. Not only have they made Ukraine dependent on the West, but they have also turned it into its colony and a trusteeship nation," Zakharova said.

The Russian diplomat said Kiev had been given about $70.5 billion from the time of a coup d’etat in February 2014 through December 2021. These sums include $18.9 billion of IMF funds, $9.2 billion of World Bank money and $3.1 billion from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Zakharova noted.

"From the start of the special operation in February 2022 to May, according to the Ukrainian National Bank’s data, Ukraine received Western financing to the tune of more than $15 billion," she said.

Also, the Russian diplomat welcomed Ukraine’s decision to establish a council that would handle decolonization issues as a right move.

"It’s a pity, this [move] is as late as it is, thus it is useless for the Anglo-Saxon colony of Kiev, since it would never regain its former grounds," Zakharova concluded.
