Lavrov stresses unacceptability of West’s attempt to dominate on world scene

The Russian foreign minister pointed out that the West openly declared the need for a unipolar world order, which they called rules-based order

RIYADH, June 1. /TASS/. Attempts by any group of countries to establish their dominance on the world scene are unacceptable, but the countries of the West have made such a policy their absolute priority and are openly declaring the need for a unipolar world order, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference following his visit to Saudi Arabia.

Lavrov said that Riyadh on Wednesday saw a major event - the fifth round of the strategic dialogue between Russia and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), which, he said, turned out to be very timely.

"Today we had a very useful conversation, which enabled us to comprehend those very serious processes, landmark ones, I should say, that are proceeding on the world scene. We have already spoken about them publicly during the trip to Bahrain and earlier in Algeria and Oman," Lavrov added.

"The main conclusion following the assessment of the geopolitical situation is that no individual group of countries should be allowed to establish their dominance on the world scene. Regrettably, our Western partners have made this policy their priority. An unconditional priority. They openly declare the need for a unipolar world order, which they call rules-based order. As for the rules, they are developed by the West, while the others do not have such a right, in their opinion. They make no secret of this," the Russian foreign minister said.
