BRICS countries to consolidate steps to combat sanctions and disinformation — statement

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. The BRICS countries have confirmed their intention to consolidate joint steps to counter unilateral sanctions and disinformation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Thursday following consultations of BRICS foreign ministries on information issues, which took place on May 25 in the videoconference format.

"A number of issues of cooperation between specialized departments of the BRICS countries’ foreign ministries in the media space were discussed in detail," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, "In conditions of increasing information pressure of the West, including purposeful spreading of fake news and imposing unjustified restrictions on professional activities of the media, the sides confirmed their determination to consolidate joint efforts in the global information space to counteract unilateral sanctions, block confrontation and disinformation."

As the ministry stressed, the participants in the consultations praised the comprehensive information work of BRICS. "They expressed mutual interest in further expansion of contacts and exchanges between specialized departments of foreign ministries’ departments, deepening cooperation in the sphere of information support for the activities of the BRICS countries and coordinated work in the media space," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
