World faced with moment of reckoning over rule of UN charter, Russia says

Sergey Lavrov stressed that UN Security Council resolutions "should be considered sacred" by the Secretary-General’s office

MOSCOW, April 26. /TASS/. The world is faced with a moment of reckoning over whether humankind will be following the UN charter or succumb to the dictatorship of an individual country supported by a group of satellites, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference after his talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"I think there is no postponing such a discussion. International relations have reached a turning point, and now we shall either accept the idea of the destiny of humankind being decided by a single country and a number of its satellites, or the world will continue to be bound by the UN charter. This is a simple choice to make," Lavrov said.

UN Security Council resolutions "should be considered sacred" by the Secretary-General’s office, Lavrov stressed. He also emphasized that countries violating the UN Charter should be held responsible for their actions.

"No one wants any wars, God forbid. But it is imperative to present arguments and demand answers from those who violate the UN Charter. And let me assure you, more and more countries, especially those with their own history, culture and a civilized heritage, are opting for such a stance," Lavrov said.
