No preparations underway for Putin-Biden meeting so far — Kremlin

Several years of very intense talks at the expert level lie ahead, the spokesman stressed

MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. There are no preparations underway for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden so far, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

"So far, no," he said, answering a question on whether a meeting between Putin and Biden is in the works currently.

"The issue of disarmament is one thing. I would say that there are several years of very intense talks at the expert level ahead of us, that much is certain," he said. "But as for top-level contacts, so far, this is not under discussion."

On January 26, Putin and Biden held their first phone call, which lasted a little over 35 minutes. The leaders expressed satisfaction over the prolongation of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in the trade-economic and other spheres. The leaders also touched upon international agreements and other current issues.
