Russia ready to assist Norway in dealing with inappropriate storage of radioactive waste

Radioactive waste storage rules have been violated in Norway’s main storage facility located 50 kilometers from Oslo

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Moscow is ready to assist Oslo in dealing with inappropriate storage of radioactive waste, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

"We have seen these reports, two major rules violations have been recorded," she said in response to a TASS question.

"Given our long experience of cooperation in the field of radiation security, Russia is ready to provide assistance to our Norwegian colleagues in resolving issues with the radioactive waste storage system," the Russian diplomat pointed out.

According to her, radioactive waste storage rules have been violated in Norway’s main storage facility located 50 kilometers from Oslo. "Though Norwegian experts claim there is no risk of contamination, cases of inappropriate storage of radioactive waste cause us concern. We expect Norwegian authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and take all necessary measures to prevent any consequences for the environment," Zakharova added.
