Russian MFA accuses Western media of muting coverage of Crocus City Hall attack

The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that "within hours of the tragic events, Western media outlets, as well as White House, British and European Union officials, promptly launched a PR campaign to deny Ukrainian intelligence agencies’ involvement in the crime"

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Western governments have ordered their media to suppress coverage of the terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall, and not give a full picture of what happened there, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Telegram.

"They pointed out that it’s unacceptable to show any sympathy or humanity towards the Russian people. The West’s attempts to distract the world’s attention from the real masterminds and beneficiaries look particularly ruthless in light of strict orders to the media not to cover the actual scale of the tragedy. That is, refrain from mentioning the number of those killed in the attack, including children, and leave out reports of what ordinary people think about what happened," the statement reads.

The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that "within hours of the tragic events, Western media outlets, as well as White House, British and European Union officials, promptly launched a PR campaign to deny Ukrainian intelligence agencies’ involvement in the crime, while the world unequivocally condemned the terrorist attack."

"Editors at the leading Western media outlets received specific orders to promote their own version of events related to the Krasnogorsk terrorist attack, which is built around the involvement of ISIS (the former name of the Islamic State terror group outlawed in Russia - TASS) and denies ties between Islamists and the Ukrainian government or Western intelligence agencies, while seeking to discredit what the investigation says and promote conspiracy theories about the alleged involvement of Russian special services," the ministry added.

On the evening of March 22, a terrorist attack targeted the Crocus City Hall music venue in Krasnogorsk, just outside the Moscow city limits. According to the latest data, 144 people were killed and 551 suffered injuries. Eleven people, including four perpetrators, have been arrested in the case of the terrorist attack. The Russian Investigative Committee said that investigators had found evidence of the attackers’ connection to Ukrainian nationalists.
