Nine people injured in fire at offshore oil production platform in Gulf of Mexico

A fire broke out on one of the Akal B platforms in the area of pipelines supplying fuel gas for turbomachines

MEXICO CITY, April 7. /TASS/. An oil production platform of Mexico's state energy company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico, injuring nine people.

"Today (on April 6 - TASS) at 4:48 p.m. local time (10:48 p.m. GMT) a fire broke out on one of the Akal B platforms in the area of pipelines supplying fuel gas for turbomachines. An emergency plan was immediately implemented at the facility and at 5:04 p.m. local time (11:04 p.m. GMT) the fire was localized," the company said in a statement published on its X page.

According to the company, nine people suffered "minor injuries" as a result of the fire. Two of them are Pemex employees, the other seven people are contractors.
