Sitronics preparing to install autonomous navigation systems on ships

According to statistics, 96% of incidents on water occur because of human fault, the president of the company noted

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Sitronics Group is preparing to outfit ships with the autonomous navigation technology for use on the Northern Sea Route, President of the company Nikolay Pozhidaev told TASS.

"The key area for us is the use of [autonomous ship navigation] technologies inside the country. The Northern Sea Route is definitely a focus for us. We are preparing proactively for that," he said.

According to statistics, 96% of incidents on water occur because of human fault, Pozhidaev noted. The autonomous ship navigation will make it possible to reduce the accident rate in voyages, he said. "The Northern Sea Route means challenging navigation conditions, when many decisions have to be taken, plenty of information need to be processed. This is exactly where the artificial intelligence system is very good in helping us to process it," Pozhidaev informed.

The company is also investing in other associated systems for the Northern Sea Route, such as solutions for evaluation of the ice situation and route planning, he added.
