Sino-Russian energy ties strategic, mutually beneficial, says Russian envoy

Russia and China have set up a special intergovernmental committee on energy cooperation, Igor Morgulov said, adding that energy trade has long demonstrated positive dynamics

BEIJING, February 27. /TASS/. The trade and economic relationship between Moscow and Beijing in the energy sector is strategic and mutually beneficial, Russia’s ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said in an interview with the Chinese newspaper Huanqiu Shibao published on Monday.

"The cooperation between Russia and China in the energy sector is strategic and mutually beneficial, being the practical display of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia in the new era," he said.

Russia and China have set up a special intergovernmental committee on energy cooperation, the diplomat said, adding that energy trade has long demonstrated positive dynamics.

"Our energy cooperation does not depend on current geopolitical factors, and it has its own history and future," he said. The projects that are being jointly implemented by the two countries’ enterprises, will contribute much to the growth of bilateral trade, as well as facilitate Russia’s and China’s energy security, Morgulov noted.

He also pointed out that the Russian Federation does not politicize the issue of practical cooperation in the energy sector. "Russia is a reliable supplier of hydrocarbons, and its cooperation with China is based on mutual respect and profit," the ambassador stressed.
