Russia working on transition from SWIFT to more secure mechanisms — Foreign Ministry

"Various other ways of financial information transmission are being developed proactively to this end, including under auspices of the Bank of Russia," Maria Zakharova noted

MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Russia is taking measures to make a transition from SWIFT to payment information transmission mechanisms that are protected from the external pressure, official spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday at a briefing.

"We continue making efforts aimed at a gradual transition from SWIFT to financial information transmission mechanisms that are protected from the outside pressure. Various other ways of financial information transmission are being developed proactively to this end, including under auspices of the Bank of Russia," she noted.

"We are confident not merely other countries but also other countries, and there are plenty of them, are interested in appearance of international payment infrastructure that is genuinely unbiased and independent from such shifting winds of Western nations," the spokeswoman stressed. "This is not only a pragmatic issue, this is the issue of survival for many," she added.
