ISLAMABAD, January 20. /TASS/. Russian companies have reaffirmed their interest in participating in the project to renovate a metallurgical plant in Karachi, Pakistan, according to Deputy Director of the Department for Asia, Africa, and Latin American countries of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia Yaroslav Tarasyuk.
"Russian companies indicated their interest in participating in the upgrading of the metallurgical plant in Karachi, and also took into consideration the issue of supplying Russian metal for the mobile sector of Pakistan," he said.
Earlier, Russian Energy Minister Nikolay Shulginov stated that Russia possesses the technologies required to upgrade a steel plant in Karachi, Pakistan. An intergovernmental memorandum was signed in 2013, and the Russian side later presented a concept for renovating and enhancing the plant's output capacity. According to Shulginov, the Pakistani government has chosen to privatize this enterprise, but the plans have yet to be implemented.
