Russian gas supplies via Ukraine at previous volume, Europe’s withdrawal from UGS up

Currently, European UGS facilities are 92.81% full, with 100.4 bln cubic meters of gas stored in them

MOSCOW, December 2. /TASS/. The EU countries continue to rapidly increase the rate of gas withdrawal from their underground storage facilities (UGS) as the average share of wind generation in electricity generation is declining. The flow of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from terminals into the European gas transmission system is also on the rise.

On November 30, 432 mln cubic meters of gas were withdrawn from EU countries’ UGS facilities, and 26 mln cubic meters of gas were pumped, according to data provided by Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). The heating season started in Europe on November 14.

Currently, European UGS facilities are 92.81% full, with 100.4 bln cubic meters of gas stored in them. The maximum capacity of European gas storage facilities equals 107.7 bln cubic meters, according to GIE.

The underground storage facilities are mainly getting filled due to purchases of LNG and supplies via alternative pipelines. The capacities on regasification of liquified gas and its further pumping into European pipelines are currently loaded by 78% of their maximum.

Russian gas supplies to Europe in transit through Ukraine remain at previous volume of 42.4 mln cubic meters via the Sudzha gas distribution station on December 2, according to data released on the website of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU). The transit line through Ukraine remains the only route to supply Russian gas to western and central European countries after Nord Stream was damaged.
