YEKATERINBURG, October 24. /TASS/. Malaysia is ready to discuss the endorsement of Russia’s Mir payment system, though no negotiations on the issue are underway now, the country’s temporary charge d'affaires in Russia Johan Ariff Abdul Razak told TASS on Monday.
"Yes, we are open to discussing the issue, though the discussion has not started yet," he said when asked whether Malaysia was ready to back the Mir payment system.
During a press conference in TASS’ Urals information center the diplomat noted that it would be more convenient for Russians that just arrived in Malaysia, to use the Chinese payment system UnionPay. "But in the future, I do not rule out that the Mir payment system will be operational in Malaysia," he added.
Earlier, Indonesia’s ambassador to Russia Jose Tavares said the country was interested in accepting Mir cards on its territory. He also noted that the situation with Mir cards in Turkey, where certain banks have stopped accepting those cards, was a bad example for Indonesian authorities.
