VILNIUS, August 25. /TASS/. Lithuanian commercial banks do not change their position on accepting payments for railway freight transit to the Kaliningrad Region via the country, spokesperson of the Association of Lithuanian Banks told reporters on Thursday.
"A justification issued by government agencies in writing is required for financial institutions to make an exclusion from rules for payments related to a specific state," Valerija Kiguoliene said.
Lithuanian commercial banks said earlier that acceptance of transit payments can be made as a matter of exception if the government announces them as required from the standpoint of government interests. Banks are concerned that acceptance of transit payments can be regarded as violation of EU sanctions against Russia.
Authorities refuse to make the decision needed by banks.
