Results of Mir cards introducted in Latin American states expected shortly, says diplomat

It is stated that the results won't take too long

MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. Russia expects the results of introduction of Mir cards in Latin American countries shortly, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Latin America Department Alexander Shchetinin said in an interview with TASS.

"Such work is underway," he said, adding that "it won't be long before particular results" are seen.

Cuban Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Garcia Granda said in early May the country’s authorities were working towards easing the use of cards of Russian banks in coordination with Russian partners. In particular, the work was underway to introduce the cards of the Mir payment system.

Russia’s Ambassador to Venezuela Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov told TASS earlier that Moscow and Caracas were developing steps on connecting the republic to Mir and on using a respective card in the Latin American country.
