US Department of Treasury authorizes deals with Gazprom Germania by September 30

This general license does not authorize any transactions otherwise prohibited by the US, including transactions involving any person blocked, unless separately authorized

WASHINGTON, May 2. /TASS/. The US Department of the Treasury has suspended a number of American sanctions and authorized transactions with Gazprom Germania GmbH and any other entity, in which the company owns a 50% or greater stake, by September 30, 2022, according to the general license released by the Department of the Treasury on Monday.

"<…> All transactions involving Gazprom Germania GmbH, or any entity in which Gazprom Germania GmbH owns, directly or indirectly, a 50% or greater interest, that are prohibited <…> under Executive Order [by US President Joe Biden] 14024 <…>, are authorized through 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time (7:01 am Moscow time), September 30, 2022," the document said.

Meanwhile, this general license does not authorize any transactions otherwise prohibited by the US, including transactions involving any person blocked, unless separately authorized.

Earlier reports said that Gazprom Group terminated the participation in Gazprom Germania GmbH and all its assets on March 31. The holding since March 31 ceased to be the owner of St. Petersburg-based Gazprom Export Business Services subsidiary, which in its turn was the sole founder of Gazprom Germania GmbH, the statement said.

Handelsblatt newspaper wrote earlier citing sources in the German government that the Economy Ministry of Germany did not rule out nationalization of German subsidiaries of Russia’s Gazprom and Rosneft.
