Gazprom confirms volumes of gas requested by Moldova in May — Moldovagaz

Deliveries are planned to be carried out via the traditional gas transportation route, the Moldavian company informed

CHISINAU, April 29. /TASS/. Gazprom confirmed the volumes of gas requested by Moldova in May, the press service of the Moldovagaz gas distribution company announced on Telegram.

"Gazprom has officially confirmed the volumes of natural gas contracted for supplies to the republic of Moldova in May 2022. <...> Deliveries are planned to be carried out via the traditional gas transportation route. The expected purchase price for May is $910, excluding calorific value," the press service said.

It notes that 32 million cubic meters have been booked for the right-bank part of Moldova for May, and for the unrecognized Transnistria - 131 million cubic meters.

As industry experts told TASS, this statement confirms only the technical possibility of deliveries. The problem of compliance by Moldova with contractual obligations still exists.

Gazprom may stop deliveries, as Moldova is not yet ready to fulfill the agreement on the return of the debt for the consumed fuel and asks for a delay. Chisinau is ready to agree on a debt repayment schedule only after an audit of the debt that has accumulated on the balance sheet of Moldovagaz. Earlier, the parties agreed that an agreement to this effect would be signed before May 1, but the Moldovan government has not yet been able to attract a foreign auditor.

The repayment of the debt for gas and timely payments were among the main conditions on which Gazprom agreed in October 2021 to extend the contract for the supply of gas to Moldova for the next five years. Earlier, Gazprom spokesman Sergey Kupriyanov said that Moldovagaz's current debt is $433 million, and taking into account the delay in payments, the total amount of debt reaches $709 million.
