Hainan Phoenix Airport's 2021 passenger traffic increased 7.9% to 16.63 million people

HAIKOU /China/, January 18. /TASS/. Passenger traffic at Sanya Phoenix International Airport on Hainan Island increased 7.9% to 16.63 million in 2021, the Sanya Daily reported.

According to the newspaper, this airport ranked 19th among the 29 airports in China, capable of serving more than 10 million people annually. In terms of passenger number growth rates Sanya ranks 10th in China.

Thus, Sanya Phoenix International Airport 's passenger traffic has recovered to about 82% of 2019 levels. Between March and June, the passenger load at this airport even exceeded the maximum pre-pandemic figure for the corresponding period of time. In addition, during the five days of last year's May holidays, it handled a maximum of 68,600 passengers.

According to the official forecast, the Phoenix Airport’s passenger traffic is expected to exceed 2.24 million people during the Lunar New Year (celebrated this time on February 1), which will roughly last from January 17 to February 25.

Sanya is China's leading resort, with more than 1 million people already living there, according to the 2021 census. The average annual temperature in this city is 25.4 degrees Celsius, and the length of the coastline exceeds 200 kilometers. There are 19 bays in the adjacent water area and about 40 islands suitable for vacations. All this allows the local administration to successfully develop yacht tourism and beach recreation.
