Russia to feature latest counter-drone system at Dubai Airshow — Rosoboronexport

The latest system features a portable small-sized radar 1L122-1E made by KRET Radio-Electronic Technologies Group, which allows for detecting a UAV at a range sufficient for its interception or destruction

MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. Russia will unveil the latest domestic system of countering small-size unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Dubai Airshow 2023, the press office of the state arms seller Rosoboronexport announced on Thursday.

The company "is ready to examine foreign customers’ requests for the delivery of the system that will be on display," it said.

"Rosoboronexport will feature the latest Russian highly-automated integrated system capable of detecting, suppressing or destroying popular small-size FPV drones, quadcopters and aircraft-type UAVs on the battlefield. Its characteristics and high efficiency have been proven in a real combat environment," the press office quoted Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev as saying.

The new export product is designed for its supplies to specialized counter-drone units, the chief executive said.

Russia’s latest counter-drone system

The latest system features a portable small-sized radar 1L122-1E made by KRET Radio-Electronic Technologies Group (part of the state tech corporation Rostec), which allows for detecting a UAV at a range sufficient for its interception or destruction, Rosoboronexport specified.

The radar transmits aerial data via a radio channel to a portable automated control module from a set of automated control technical aids engineered by Ruselectronics Group within Rostec. The automated control module can be located at a range up to 5 km from the radar. This is actually a small tablet that an anti-drone unit commander is equipped with. Data on UAVs designated for destruction or suppression (target designation) is transmitted to anti-aircraft gunners of a Verba man-portable air defense system produced by High Precision Systems Company within Rostec or to operators of anti-drone guns outfitted with individual automated gear, the press office explained.

The operator’s individual automated gear includes special goggles with visualization capability, a headset and communications means. This set provides automated guidance at an aerial target. It is used for visualization and transmission of voice commands to an anti-aircraft gunner, an electromagnetic gun operator, a sniper or a shooter armed with other weapons, if necessary, Rosoboronexport said.

Jamming a UAV’s communication and navigation channels or destroying it constitutes the final stage of the process, it elaborated.

At the Dubai Airshow 2023, Rosoboronexport will also present an Argument-2 counter-drone gun as an electronic warfare weapon. At the customer’s request, it can be replaced with any other portable counter-drone system, the press office said.
