NEW YORK, August 4. /TASS/. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is inclined toward a military solution to free hostages in the Gaza Strip, an Israeli official told the ABC TV channel.
According to him, the Israeli authorities believe that Hamas is not interested in concluding a deal to release the hostages. The TV channel noted that there are at least 20 living Israeli hostages in the Palestinian enclave. In this regard, Netanyahu intends to expand the scope of military operations in the enclave.
On July 27, Hamas leader in Gaza Khalil al-Hayya said that negotiations with Israel were pointless while the blockade of the enclave continued. Prior to this, Netanyahu ordered the withdrawal of the delegation from the Qatari capital, where negotiations to resolve the conflict in Gaza had been taking place since July 6. This was in response to the radicals' rejection of the ceasefire proposal for the enclave. In turn, US special envoy Steve Witkoff said that Washington had also decided to withdraw negotiators from Doha after Hamas' latest response, which he said clearly indicates a lack of desire to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. However, Palestinian radicals disagreed with Witkoff’s assessment, announcing that other mediators had allegedly "approved the response and called it constructive."
