DUBAI, April 3. /TASS/. Yemeni Houthis from the rebel Ansar Allah movement have launched strikes using cruise missiles and drones against the US aircraft carrier group led by the USS Harry S. Truman in the northern part of the Red Sea, according to Yahya Saria, a spokesman for the Houthi armed forces.
"The Yemeni navy, air force, and missile forces executed a coordinated military operation in which they targeted the US aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman and its accompanying warships in the northern Red Sea with cruise missiles and drones," Saria stated in an interview with the Houthi movement-owned Al Masirah TV channel.
According to Saria, the operation "successfully achieved its objectives." He stated that Ansar Allah forces targeted the carrier group for "many hours," successfully thwarting several US attacks on rebel-held territory in Yemen.
Following the escalation of the conflict in Gaza in 2023, the Houthis issued a warning that they would bombard Israeli territory and prevent associated ships from navigating the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Although Houthi attacks stopped after a ceasefire was imposed in Gaza in mid-January, hostilities resumed in early March when the rebels announced their intention to target Israeli vessels in the Red Sea and subsequently renewed rocket strikes on targets within Israel.
On March 15, the US, acting under orders from President Donald Trump, launched extensive strikes against Houthi targets, as the group controls approximately one-third of Yemen's territory. According to the US Central Command, the operation aims to protect American interests and ensure freedom of navigation. In retaliation, the Ansar Allah movement conducted a series of attacks on the US aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman in the northern Red Sea, utilizing missiles and drones. There have been no reports of damage to the ship resulting from these strikes.
