Moldovan prime minister refutes Macron's statement about threat from Russia

"At this stage, we do not see how Russia could pose a military threat to Moldova," Dorin Recean stated

CHISINAU, March 5. /TASS/. Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean has dismissed French President Emmanuel Macron's claims regarding an alleged Russian threat to his country.

"At this stage, we do not see how Russia could pose a military threat to Moldova. We are actively engaged in discussions at various levels. You will notice that President [Maia] Sandu is very active in international and European forums, ensuring that we are positioned securely. Our goal as a nation is to join the European Union, where peace, security, and prosperity prevail," Recean stated at a briefing following a Cabinet meeting.

Earlier, the former deputy foreign minister of Moldova, Valeriu Ostalep, labeled Macron's remarks as "reckless and dangerous."

As reported by Europe 1, Macron commented on the U.S. decision to halt aid to Ukraine, suggesting that this could lead to Russia "moving into Moldova and possibly further into Romania."

The current Moldovan government, under President Maia Sandu, has consistently accused Moscow of attempting to destabilize the situation in the country. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry has called these accusations completely unfounded and without merit.
