Trudeau says introduction of tariffs on Canada by Trump "dumb thing to do"

The Canadian PM reiterated that Canada would never become the 51st state of the US

OTTAWA, March 4. /TASS/. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that the introduction of tariffs against Canada by US President Donald Trump was "a very dumb thing to do."

"Now I want to speak directly to one specific American. Donald, in the over eight years, you and I have worked together, we've done big things <…> but Donald, <…> this (introduction of tariffs - TASS) is a very dumb thing to do," he told a briefing.

Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against 155 bln Canadian dollars ($107.4 bln) worth of American goods, Trudeau said, adding that Canadian tariffs would remain in force until the US lifts its levies.

The premier also said that he planned to hold talks with Trump in coming days. Moreover, he reiterated that Canada would never become the 51st state of the US.
