BERLIN, March 4. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump's decision to suspend American military aid to Kiev is an important step towards the diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, lawmaker Harald Vilimsky, who heads the Austrian Freedom Party delegation in the European Parliament, said.
"This step proves that the reconsideration of the situation in the direction of de-escalation is possible. US President [Donald] Trump has recognized that endless arms supplies do not contribute to peace, but on the contrary only lead to a further increase in the number of deaths. This decision is an important step towards a diplomatic solution. The EU should follow his (Trump's - TASS) example and finally focus on diplomacy, not escalation," the press service of the lawmaker’s party quoted him as saying.
According to Vilimsky, the conditions for the start of talks can be created "only by stopping arms deliveries." The lawmaker emphasized that the EU now has a chance to support the diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian conflict instead of further escalating it. "The country that continues to supply weapons is contributing to the prolongation of this war," Vilimsky emphasized.
On March 3, Reuters reported, citing a White House official, that US President Donald Trump had ordered a halt to all military aid deliveries to Kiev. Later, a Pentagon spokesman confirmed this information to TASS. According to him, the suspension affects all US military equipment that is not currently in Ukraine, including weapons delivered by air and ship and awaiting further transportation in Poland's transit zones.
