LONDON, February 28. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has said that there is good mutual understanding between him and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin whom he considers to have a strong personality.

In an interview with the British weekly Spectator, Trump noted: "he and I had good understandings together. He’s a tough guy. He’s a smart guy. Very smart. Very interesting. But he’s a tough cookie."

The US leader reiterated that the Ukraine conflict would have never happened had he been the US president at the time.

Trump linked the onset of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine with Washington’s failure in Afghanistan. "It looked so bad. It was such an embarrassment. I think the most embarrassing period of time in the history of our country, actually," the US president said. In his opinion, during the Biden administration, the United States was perceived as a "paper tiger.".
