Belarus, Russia to support each other in hard times — Belarusian Security Council

Alexander Volfovich said the heads of state would be offered for consideration, among other things, a treaty between Belarus and Russia on security guarantees

MINSK, December 6. /TASS/. Russia will certainly protect Belarus in hard times, while Belarus for its part will always be by Russia’s side, the State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Alexander Volfovich told the media ahead of a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.

"The two states should support each other in the international scene in terms of protecting the national interests of either side," the BelTA news agency quotes him as saying. "In a difficult moment, Russia will protect Belarus, while Belarus for its part is always ready to stand by Russia’s side."

Volfovich said the heads of state would be offered for consideration, among other things, a treaty between Belarus and Russia on security guarantees.

"This is the first such regulatory act that declares the two states are for each other and guarantee mutual security", he pointed out.

Volfovich said that the treaty was based on Russia's nuclear doctrine.

"Russia says that in case of threats to the security of the Republic of Belarus, it can also use nuclear weapons to protect the national interests of Belarus," the Belarusian Security Council’s state secretary pointed out.
