TBILISI, November 25. /TASS/. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has nominated Maka Botchorishvili, chair of the republic’s European Integration Committee, for the post of Foreign Minister.
"She [Botchorishvili] needs no introduction, but I want to highlight her extensive diplomatic experience," Kobakhidze said at a briefing. "From 1999 to 2020, she served successfully for over 20 years. Since 2020, she has been a member of parliament and part of our political team."
Bochorishvili will replace Ilya Darchiashvili, who has held the position since April 2022. Additionally, according to the government’s statement, new candidates for the posts of Ministers of Justice and Environmental Protection and Agriculture will be presented to parliament. Specifically, Anri Okhanashvili, head of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, will lead the Justice Ministry, while David Songulashvili, head of the Parliamentary Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy, will take charge of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
Okhanashvili will replace the current Justice Minister Rati Bregadze, while Songulashvili will take over from Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia.
Georgia's 11th Parliament, formed after the October 26 parliamentary elections, will hold its first session on Monday. According to the Constitution, once the newly elected MPs assume their duties, the government will automatically resign, with the entire cabinet, including the prime minister, serving in an acting capacity until a new approval is granted.
