US State Department announces anti-Russian sanctions over special military operation

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Washington aspires for the special military operation to become "a strategic failure for Russia"

WASHINGTON, February 23. /TASS/. The US Department of State has included 250 private individuals and legal entities in its anti-Russian sanctions lists in order to deprive Russia of the revenue and technology for its special military operation, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

"The Department of State is imposing sanctions on more than 250 entities and individuals" in order to deprive Russia "of the revenue and technology it needs to prosecute its war effort and engage in destabilizing activity around the world," the top US diplomat said. "Our targets include those involved in the evasion of our economic restrictions against Russia and those responsible for bolstering Russia’s future energy, metals, and mining production among others," he added. These sanctions duplicate those introduced by the US Department of the Treasury earlier on Friday.

According to Blinken, "The United States will use all available tools to hinder Russia’s ability to access the global financial system, disrupt Russia’s military-industrial-procurement, stand in solidarity with Russians striving for a more democratic future." He added that the US aspires for the special military operation to become "a strategic failure for Russia."

On February 23, the US Department of State, the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Commerce introduced another sanctions package against Russia.
