US hopes anti-Russian sanctions take effect in long-term perspective — Blinken

US Secretary of State said that its ability to modernize its industries, whether it is its defense industry, aeronautics, energy extraction, all of the technology that’s being denied it as a result of its actions will have an increasingly heavier and heavier impact

BUENOS AIRES, February 23. /TASS/. Washington hopes for the West’s sanctions against Russia to become effective in the long-term perspective, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a joint press conference with Argentina’s Foreign Minister Diana Mondino following their talks in Buenos Aires.

"I believe that already these sanctions, these restrictions have had a significant effect on Russia," the top US diplomat said. "But even more, we see that they’re going to have a growing and long-term impact on Russia, its ability to modernize its industries, whether it is its defense industry, aeronautics, energy extraction, all of the technology that’s being denied it as a result of its actions will have an increasingly heavier and heavier impact," Blinken claimed, commenting on the US and EU introducing new sanctions against Moscow.

"So we see this playing out both in the immediate but we are also seeing it playing out over the long term," he reiterated.
