Hezbollah does not buy weapons 'on Ukrainian front' — deputy leader

Naim Qassem also said that whether the conflict would deepen depended on Israeli actions, while Hezbollah was ready to defend itself and to protect the Gaza Strip and the Palestinians' right to their land

ROME, November 15. /TASS/. Hezbollah’s deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem has said that the Lebanese Shiite organization has not purchased any weapons in the Ukrainian conflict zone.

"We have no need to do so. Our arsenals are full and we have to build up new reserves," he said in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper, when asked whether Hezbollah had purchased weapons "on the Ukrainian front."

Qassem also said that whether the conflict would deepen depended on Israeli actions, while Hezbollah was ready to defend itself and to protect the Gaza Strip and the Palestinians' right to their land.

"If you ask me if there will be an all-out war, I will tell you that it depends on what will happen in the Gaza Strip and on what Israel will do. We don't know if [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu wants war," Qassem noted, adding his organization has "the military strength and soldiers to inflict heavy losses on Israel."

He noted, however, that in contrast to 2006, when the latest conflict between Hezbollah and the Israeli army in South Lebanon took place, the organization was better armed and organized.

"Israel should think hard about its moves," Kassem concluded.
