Turkish opposition to abolish presidential political councils, if it wins elections

The road map said "presidential political councils and offices, which have been set up to function in parallel to ministries, will be abolished"

ANKARA, March 6. /TASS/. Turkish opposition Nation Alliance plans to abolish all presidential councils and strengthen parliamentarism in the presidential republic, if it wins the elections, the six-party bloc said in a road map for the transition to a reinforced parliamentary system that it published on Monday.

The road map said "presidential political councils and offices, which have been set up to function in parallel to ministries, will be abolished." These agencies have prompted criticism from the government’s opponents as they are believed to be a tool supporting enhanced presidential authority.

"The distribution of ministerial posts will be determined by the number of lawmakers that were elected at nationwide parliamentary elections to represent political parties that are members of the Nation Alliance. Each party of the alliance will be represented by at least one minister in the cabinet," the road map said.
