German Left Party politician suggests UN peacekeepers be deployed to Donbass

BERLIN, March 6. /TASS/. Jan van Aken of Germany’s Left Party said on Monday that peace talks on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine are impossible without China and suggested UN peacekeepers be deployed to Donbass.

"Why has [German Chancellor] Olaf Scholz not visited Beijing for eight months, although everyone knows that there can be no talks without China?" Germany’s Die Bild quoted him as saying. "I think that the best option will be a UN mandate [for the deployment of peacekeepers to Donbass] and a referendum in the long run."

"A UN mandate for several years. Maybe, it will be implemented by the Chinese military. That would be a very serious security guarantee for Ukraine," he added.
