Domestic violence on the rise in Ukraine amid electricity outages — media

According to the minister, the number of calls about domestic violence to hotlines is increasing

KIEV, November 27. /TASS/. Cases of domestic violence have become more often amid electricity outages, Ukraine’s Klimenko Time media outlet said on Sunday, citing Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky.

According to the minister, the number of calls about domestic violence to hotlines is increasing. "Violence must not be transferred to family members," he stressed.

Earlier, Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovich also linked the growth of violence and aggression with the deterioration of the customary everyday environment.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on November 18 that nearly half of the country’s energy system had been disabled. Head of the presidential office Andrey Yermak said on November 23 that he did not rule out that electricity outages may last for weeks.
