ATHENS, March 2. /TASS/. The Russian Embassy in Greece is providing necessary consular assistance to Russian citizen Yevgeny Kalinin who was arrested at the airport in Athens on Thursday, spokesman for the embassy Vasily Gavrilov told TASS on Saturday.

"The Russian Embassy in Greece confirms that the Greek authorities arrested Russian citizen Kalinin Yevgeny Vyacheslavovich on February 28. He was placed in detention. From the very beginning, the Russian Embassy in Greece has been providing necessary consular assistance to him," the spokesman said.

Gavrilov noted that head of the consular department at the Russian Embassy met with Kalinin.

The spokesman also confirmed that Kalinin was detained at the request of Ukrainian authorities. "Yes, I can confirm this," he said adding that no other details on the case are currently available.
