Germany ready to patrol Polish airspace, Defense Ministry says

According to Christian Thiels, the aircraft may depart on the patrolling mission from bases in Germany

BERLIN, November 16. /TASS/. Berlin is prepared to patrol Poland’s airspace and send its Eurofighter aircraft on the mission, German Defense Ministry Spokesman Christian Thiels said at a briefing on Wednesday.

"It can happen as early as tomorrow if Poland so wishes," he said.

According to Thiels, the aircraft may depart on the patrolling mission from bases in Germany.

"We are already in contact with Poland and the German defense minister will discuss the proposal with his Polish counterpart today," the spokesman said. He did not specify how many Eurofighter planes Germany was willing to send to Poland, adding that the issue was to be discussed with the Polish authorities.

On Tuesday, a missile fell in the village of Przewodow in eastern Poland on the border with Ukraine, killing two people. According to Polish President Andrzej Duda, so far there is no evidence indicating who launched the projectile. The Polish Foreign Ministry insisted that it was a Russian-made missile. US President Joe Biden, in turn, noted that preliminary information disproved that the missile had been fired from Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry branded claims by Polish media outlets and officials of alleged Russian missiles falling on Polish soil as provocations since no Russian strikes had taken place near the Ukrainian-Polish border. The Russian Defense Ministry pointed out that the photos of the debris from the incident site published by the Polish media had nothing to do with Russian weapons.
