BERLIN, October 30. /TASS/. The new Ukrainian envoy to Germany, Alexey Makeyev, following the example of his predecessor, criticized Berlin's assistance to Kiev in connection with the Russian special military operation, according to his interview with the Bild am Sonntag newspaper, published on Sunday.

Makeyev compared Germany's aid to "a sports car going down the motorway at 30 kilometers per hour." "Instead of sending what is needed in the fight against Russia, we are told for weeks why our demands will not be met in any way. Then weeks or months go by, Germany ends up helping anyway, but when it's almost too late. This happened with infantry fighting vehicles, artillery and grenade launchers," the envoy said. In his opinion, Germany could have helped Ukraine "much more and much faster".

When asked what exactly Kiev wants to get, he said: "Combat tanks and long-range artillery."

Makeyev assumed his duties as envoy on October 24. He succeeded Andrey Melnik, known for his scandalous statements and insults against German politicians.

According to a report presented by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the country supplied Ukraine with weapons, equipment and military equipment worth 686 million euros. Berlin had not sent weapons to conflict zones prior to the Russia’s special operation.
