WASHINGTON, October 15. /TASS/. A new US military aid package for Ukraine, the allocation of which the US administration announced on Friday, includes over 200 Humvees (HMMWVs), ammunition for HIMARS rocket systems, anti-tank weapons, artillery shells, the US Defense Department announced.
According to the statement, the package worth $725 million includes "additional ammunition" for HIMARS, 23,000 155mm artillery rounds and 500 precision-guided 155mm artillery rounds. In addition, the US will transfer to the Ukrainian armed forces 5,000 anti-tank weapons, HARMs missiles, small arms, other weapons, and medical supplies.
The Pentagon specified that Washington had committed to provide Kiev with a total of $18.2 billion worth of weapons since January 2021.
Earlier on Friday, US President Joe Biden said that he had ordered to allocate additional military aid to Ukraine in the amount of up to $725 million.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in Ukraine following a request for assistance from the leaders of the Donbass republics. After that, the US, the EU, the UK, as well as a number of other countries imposed sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities. In addition, Western countries began to supply arms and military equipment to Kiev worth billions of dollars at this stage.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other Russian officials have repeatedly drawn attention to the fact that the weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine may spread to other regions. Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov warned that the West's militarization of Ukraine directly threatened European and global security.
