Austria freezes 254 mln euro on accounts of Russian businessmen — agency

Funds on 97 accounts have been frozen by the interior ministry’s state security and intelligence department

VIENNA, May 22. /TASS/. Austria has frozen 254 million euro on the accounts of Russian large businessmen as part of anti-Russian sanctions over the special military operation in Ukraine, Austria Presse Agentur said on Sunday citing Austria’s Federal Chancellery.

According to the agency, in all, funds on 97 accounts have been frozen by the interior ministry’s state security and intelligence department.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country.

Following this step, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and several other countries announced sanctions against Russia individuals and legal entities.
