Baku may provoke more incidents in Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenian PM tells Putin

The prime minister clarified Armenia’s expectations to the Russian president, according to which Russian peacekeepers need to take steps to make Azerbaijani troops leave the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping forces

YEREVAN, March 31. /TASS/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed to the risk of Azerbaijan provoking more incidents in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, the Armenian prime minister’s press service said in a statement.

"Prime Minister Pashinyan briefed the Russian president on the situation following the invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijani troops and noted with regret that the situation had not been resolved but, according to some reports, more provocations by Azerbaijani forces were possible in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers," the statement reads.

Pashinyan also pointed out that "given the presence of Russian peacekeepers, Azerbaijani troops’ invasion of the zone of responsibility of peacekeeping forces raises questions, and thanked the Russian president for his positive approach to efforts to investigate the situation."

"The prime minister clarified Armenia’s expectations to the Russian president, according to which Russian peacekeepers need to take steps to make Azerbaijani troops leave the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping forces. The two countries’ leaders agreed to take measures to resolve the situation as soon as possible," the statement added.
