Ukrainian troops fire 10 Grad missiles at town bordering on Donetsk — DPR mission

Tensions escalated along the line of contact in eastern Ukraine on February 17

DONETSK, March 24./TASS/. The Ukrainian Armed Forces fired ten missiles from Grad multiple launcher systems at the town of Makeyevka, bordering on Donetsk, the DPR mission to the Joint Center to Control and Coordination (JCCC) said on Thursday.

"The shelling of Makeyevka by the Ukrainian Armed Forces was reported. Ten missiles were fired from BM-21 Grad," the mission wrote on its Telegram channel.

Tensions escalated along the line of contact in eastern Ukraine on February 17. The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR, LPR) reported the heaviest shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in months. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees on recognizing the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

Russia recognized the two republics within the administrative borders of Donetsk and Lugansk regions as they were at the beginning of 2014 stipulated in their constitutions.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to an aid request from the Donbass republics. DPR and LPR started a military operation to liberate their territories controlled by Kiev.
