MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin has gained the 1,180th point in his NHL career on Tuesday night, setting a new scoring record for a Russian player in NHL.

It took him 1,055 games in 14 seasons to beat the previous record by Sergei Fedorov, who completed his NHL career in 2009. Fedorov scored 1,179 career points (483+696) in 1,248 games throughout 18 seasons.

Ovechkin’s closest rival, Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has scored 985 career points in 834 games.
