NOVO-OGAREVO, December 2. /TASS/. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) will not lead to an increase in unemployment, Russian President Vladimir Putin said commenting on the introduction of technology into the work of translators.
"Even in [the work of translators], although it would seem that there is a complete replacement, people are still stay employed. It is just that the profile of their working activities is changing," the president said at a meeting with young scientists.
"Of course, there is some reduction, there is re-profiling, but the introduction of these technologies does not lead to an increase in unemployment," he added.
Concerns about the fate of the translators and interpreters arose when Anton Vyshinsky, head of the data research department at the Artificial Intelligence Center of Sberbank, reported to the head of state about the results of his project.
"We have developed an AI-based service for simultaneous interpreting, this technology was presented for the first time in Russia at the Congress of Young Scientists. The service allows us to translate the direct speech of speakers into a dozen languages," Vyshinsky noted.
Touching upon possible unemployment among translators, Vyshinsky suggested that "it is not necessary to replace someone, it is necessary to build "synergistic relations." In particular, according to him, the service can help translators and interpreters with preparing the context. "There is a delay of about two seconds from the speakers of the original language," Vyshinsky specified.
