Russian Human Rights Commissioner appeals to prevent torture of Russian servicemen

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova is asking her Ukrainian counterpart Ludmila Denisova to take measures to prevent torture and abuse of Russian servicemen who have been captured.

"According to available information, there are cases of cruel and inhuman treatment of Russian servicemen captured in Ukraine. I appeal to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Ludmila Denisova to take measures to prevent torture, abuse, humiliation, and mockery of our citizens in captivity as soon as possible," Moskalkova wrote on her Telegram channel.

Earlier, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov reported that Ukrainian nationalists are torturing the few captured Russian servicemen. Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin instructed to identify and investigate all facts of torture of Russian servicemen by the Ukrainian military.
