Roscosmos in talks on deploying GLONASS stations in US

The stations are needed to ensure proper operation of the entire satellite system

ASTANA, December 7. /TASS/. Russia’s space corporation Roscosmos is conducting talks on placing ground stations of the system of differential correction and monitoring of the satellite navigation system GLONASS in the United States, the corporation’s spokesman Anatoly Krasnikov told the media on Friday.

"We deploy such stations around the world, including Brazil, South America. Naturally, many of them are in Russia. We are holding talks with the United States for planting some in its territory," Krasnikov said.

The stations are needed to ensure proper operation of the entire GLONASS system - satellites in orbit and the ground component - to ensure the GLONASS satellites send the correct signal.

"The stations measure the coordinates of satellites and help adjust their orbits. This allows for achieving the expected accuracy. Obtaining the same result without such stations would be far harder," Krasnikov said.
