MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. The Kremlin has taken notice of the proposal from US President Donald Trump to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to the neighboring Arab nations, but Moscow is also aware that Egypt and Jordan have rejected the initiative, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"As regards the relocation [of Gazans], yes, we have heard of Mr. Trump’s statements regarding this. And we have also heard of and seen statements from Amman <…> and Cairo <…> where they have opposed the idea," Peskov said in response to a TASS reporter’s inquiry.
"This is how we view the developments in the Middle East," Peskov concluded.
At a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following talks in the White House on Tuesday, Trump did not rule out sending US troops to the Palestinian enclave and rebuild it into "the Riviera of the Middle East." For that purpose, the US leader suggested Palestinians could be resettled to the neighboring Egypt and Jordan, an idea that was opposed by Cairo and Amman.
