Entire Ukrainian authority illegitimate because the head of state lost legitimacy — Putin

"Everything that they do, carrying out [Zelensky’s] duties, means that they are all complicit in these illegal activities," the president emphasized

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. The entire Ukrainian authority is illegitimate, because many of its bodies have been formed by the president, who himself has lost his legitimacy, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the combined Direct Line Q&A session and year-end press conference.

"Why is this regime illegitimate? I repeat again: the Ukrainian Constitution does not contain any indication that the presidential duties could be prolonged even amid martial law. There is only one legitimate body of authority - the representative power body, i.e. the Verkhovna Rada - whose duties could be prolonged without election amid martial law. […] The Ukrainian state is designed in such a way that many bodies of power are formed by the president. This includes heads of regions, heads of all security agencies. But if the head of state is illegitimate, then everything else also loses its legitimacy," he said.

This also involves bodies of executive power and security agencies, Putin noted.

"Everything that they do, carrying out [Zelensky’s] duties, means that they are all complicit in these illegal activities," the president emphasized.

Zelensky’s presidential duties expired on May 20. The matter of legitimacy of power amid the lack of parliamentary and presidential elections remains a controversial point of discussion in Ukraine.
