MOSCOW, November 26. /TASS/. Russian Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov called on his counterparts from CIS countries to consolidate efforts in protecting the interests of the Eurasian Economic Union, and later BRICS.
"I would like to note that we have developed a rich practice of interagency cooperation. The established mechanisms for ensuring security within the CIS, CSTO and SCO allow us to effectively identify and suppress new challenges and threats," he said at a meeting of heads of security agencies and intelligence services of CIS member countries. "At this stage, I believe it would be advisable to consolidate efforts to protect the interests of the Eurasian Economic Union and, in the future, BRICS."
CIS intelligence services, he said, face an important mission to prevent the implementation of the scenario of chaotization in the CIS and its transformation into a cheap resource base. According to the official, the increasing external challenges and threats to the security of CIS countries dictate the need to further expand and strengthen the partnership between their national special services, including agencies in the field of intelligence. As the main areas of work, he named "an exchange of operationally significant information on the enemy's subversive plans, as well as joint measures to neutralize hostile aspirations."
Stronger cooperation, he said, will be helped by joint implementation of the program in the field of reducing radicalization in the Commonwealth, which was adopted by the leaders of CIS countries in October. He also urged partners to make more active use of the International Data Bank on Countering Terrorism that was created by the Russian National Antiterrorism Committee.
