Putin-Macron contacts not yet planned, Russia open to dialogue — Kremlin

According to Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president has an active international dialogue with those who are interested in developing relations with our country

MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron are not planned now, but the Russian leader is open to dialogue, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"President Putin remains open to dialogue. He has an active international dialogue with those who are interested in developing relations with our country. And Putin is always open to dialogue in the interest of solving complex - sometimes the most complex - global and regional problems. At the moment, there are no plans for high-level contacts," he said when asked by TASS if high-level contacts were expected after the telephone conversation between the top Russian and French defense officials.

The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier that top French defense official Sebastien Lecornu expressed his condolences to his Russian counterpart Sergey Shoigu during a telephone conversation in connection with the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack. Lecornu persistently tried to convince Shoigu that Kiev and the West were not involved in the attack, shifting the responsibility to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization, which is banned in Russia.

In addition, Shoigu warned Lecornu of the problems that the appearance of a French contingent in Ukraine would create for Paris. The defense ministers pointed to their readiness for dialogue on the situation in Ukraine.
