Russia’s UN envoy urges to save Gaza before discussing its future

The Russian diplomat was asked to comment on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's proposal that the Palestine Authority take over the governance of West Bank and Gaza when the conflict ends

UNITED NATIONS, November 9. /TASS/. Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya told reporters that before the future of the Gaza Strip is discussed, the enclave should be saved first.

"This is not the time to discuss what will be in Gaza and how Gaza will be governed. Now is the time to stop the fire and to preserve the lives of civilians that are being killed on a massive scale," Nebenzya said. "We are not in the timeframe where we are discussing the future of Gaza. We have to save its present."

The Russian diplomat was asked to comment on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's proposal that the Palestine Authority take over the governance of West Bank and Gaza when the conflict ends.

He did not elaborate on the process of negotiations about the Middle East resolution, which is now being drafted by the ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, and when it may be put to a vote.

"Something is happening behind the scenes. But I don't have anything to offer to you yet," Nebenzya said.
